Sitz Bath

For years, many people have relied on a sitz bath to provide hemorrhoid relief. Sitz baths are a very effective way to reduce hemorrhoid inflammation and easy hemorrhoid pain you may be suffering from. Sitz baths are also a virtually free form of treatment, in that all you need for a sitz bath is water. The downside to using a sitz bath as a form of hemorrhoid relief is that they only provide a temporary reprieve from hemorrhoid pain and irritation, and in no way act to heal hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoid Remedy

There are two types of sitz baths. Hot sitz baths and cold sitz baths. The temperature of water that you use in your sitz bath will depend on the condition you are treating, and the majority of people use a hot sitz bath for treating hemorrhoids. If you suffer from hemorrhoids, a hot sitz bath can help to relieve pain, irritation, itching and inflammation that is caused by hemorrhoids.

Taking a hot sitz bath for hemorrhoid relief is easy. You will need a tub or basin to place your water in. If you are using a basin, it must be large enough to adequately allow you to completely immerse your buttocks area in. Most people find that using a standard bath tub is the easiest way. You will need to fill your tub with enough water so that when you sit in the tub, your buttocks is completely submerged. The water however, should go no higher than your abdominal area. You do not need to completely fill the tub for a sitz bath.

Water temperature should be 110 degrees in order for the sitz bath to effectively help remove hemorrhoid symptoms. This is a very high water temperature. If the water seems too hot, drain some of the water and add enough cold water to bring the temperature to 90-100 degrees. Once your body is accustomed to this temperature, drain some more water and add hot water to raise the temperature to 110 degrees. Do not let the water temperature in your sitz bath exceed 120 degrees.

Sit in the tub and if possible, bend your knees towards your chest so that the water can more easily access your anal area and the hemorrhoids. Stay submerged in the sitz bath for 20-40 minutes. If the hot water has you feeling uncomfortable, you can try placing your feet in a small tub of cold water, or placing cold compresses on your head and neck area to help cool you off. You can also sip cold water while you are in the hot sitz bath as well.

If you suffer from hemorrhoids, a hot sitz bath can greatly help to reduce the amount of pain and irritation you feel. Just keep in mind this remedy is only temporary and should not be performed too frequently in a short period of time. Instead, try using a hemorrhoid relief such as Calmovil to help reduce hemorrhoids and hemorrhoids symptoms and keep them away.
